Light for Living Archives.

Light for Living began as a writing ministry of Pastor Gary Click while pastoring the Calvary Baptist Church in Clinton, IN. His articles were published in the local newspaper, The Daily Clintonian. They were also distributed to email subscribers and several were posted on this website.

Shortly after assuming the pastorate of the Fremont Baptist Temple, Fremont, OH, he was approached by Pastor James Lewis and chief operator, Brian Benedict about providing a two thirty-minute Radio Programs for the weekend. (WHVT 90.5 fm) At this point, Pastor Click's writing ministry transformed into a radio ministry.

Due to time constrains, the weekly devotional gave way to the radio ministry. However, these devotionals are still available online through the Light for Living Archives.

Pastor Click is still active in writing bible studies, dramas and devotional articles for other applications. We hope to make those resources available soon.

Teach Us to Pray

Teach Us to Pray is a series of devotional based upon the the Lord's Model Prayer.

Matthew 6:9-13

9 ¶ After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.  Amen.

Our Father

September 11, 2001 began as any ordinary day for many Americans, including Todd Beamer. Yet, just as many other Americans were heading off to work, they listened on their car radios as the tragedies of the day were broadcast to unbelieving ears. In the midst of the crisis, Todd spoke with a 911 operator from aboard a doomed aircraft. Together they prayed the Lord’s Prayer, then he set off to do what he could for the good of his country.

For Todd, the Lord’s Prayer was not simply a ritual or recitation of memorized words. His pastor had recently led their church through a series on this very subject. All of the deep truths of this model prayer were fresh in Todd’s heart and mind on that day. This has led me to a deeper study of the great truths we find in Matthew 6:9-13. Read more...

Which Art in Heaven

The Lord's Prayer, which began with "Our Father," continues with the grand news that He is in Heaven. This may seem like an overstatement of the obvious. Yet we should be careful not to pass over this familiar truth to swiftly. We ought to ask ourselves, "Why is it of any significance that our Father is in heaven?"

I call to your attention, three men who saw heaven and lived to write about it. Each of them was overwhelmed with what they saw. The Apostle Paul was one of these men. He writes about heaven with great fervor and hope in 2 Corinthians 12:2-4. "I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter." Hallowed be Thy Name

What in the world does "hallowed" mean? We commonly recite the Lord's Prayer without any thought as to what it might mean. We gloss over difficult words without a second thought. We just think that if it is a big word that we don't understand we ought to just leave it alone. Have you ever considered the possibility that God may have placed these words in the Scriptures to stir our curiosity? Perhaps God uses words such as "hallowed" so that we will stop for a moment and inquire about what He is trying to say to us. When you encounter a difficult word in your bible reading, you ought to pause for a moment and reflect. Use a bible dictionary and look up that word and its meaning. Then meditate on that thought for a while. You will be amazed at how much the Holy Spirit can teach you through difficult words. Read more...

Thy Kingdom Come

Are you anticipating the Coming Kingdom of our Lord? Do you look forward to His return and the establishment of His kingdom? His kingdom is a coming kingdom. We have seen His throne room in heaven through the Scriptures in Isaiah 6 and Revelation 4. Those are brief but powerful descriptions. They fill my heart with anticipation of his coming kingdom.

I once knew a young man who argued that we are now in the kingdom. If we are, I am greatly disappointed. The truth is that he had an entirely unscriptural view.  Read more...

Thy Will Be Done

Isn’t it much more convenient to pray, “My will be done?” How often do we try to fit our own will into God’s plans. We chart our course and ask God to bless it. We determine what we want to do and expect God to make it possible and prosperous.

Jesus teaches us in the model prayer to seek the will of the Father. Many resist His will because either the do not trust Him or do not love Him. If we love God, we will desire to please Him. If we trust God, we will accept His will as the best direction for our life. Read more...

Our Daily Bread

While we are seeking His coming kingdom of our Father and seeking His will in this life we find that we are dependent upon Him for our daily provision. Let me invite you to take a few moments to notice the Source of our Provision, the Strength of our provision and the Satisfaction of our provision. Read more...

Forgive Us, Lead Us, Deliver Us part one

I hate to loose. I much prefer to win. Don’t you? I want the victory in all that I do. I especially want victory in my Christian life. These are three keys to victory in the Christian life. If we can pray from the heart as Jesus taught us, “forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,” we will have victory in our Christian life!

There are some great principles in forgiveness that are often overlooked. The Greek word translated as forgive (aphiemi) literally means to forsake, to put away, to leave or send away. There are a number of instances in the Scripture when this word is translated that way. This is the same word used when Jesus sent the multitude away, when the disciples left their nets and when Peter said, “We have forsaken all, and followed thee.” (Matthew 19:27) Read more...

Forgive Us, Lead Us, Deliver Us part two

As a child, I can remember that simple game called Follow the Leader. It seemed so simple back then. You simply stood in line and followed the person in front of you. You did whatever they did. Yet there was always one kid in the crowd that had to be different. Whatever the leader did, he did just the opposite. What kind of follower are you?

A better question might be, “Who are you following?” Everyone follows someone. Whose lead do you follow? Paul encouraged people to follow him. “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.” (1Corinthians 11:1) He could say that only because of who he followed. Jesus teaches us in the model prayer that we ought to as the Father to lead us. We need direction from above. Read more...

Forgive Us, Lead Us, Deliver Us part three

The strength to overcome evil does not lie within you. Quite frankly, you are not strong enough. You do not have the ability to overcome evil. This is why Jesus teaches us to pray, “Deliver us from evil.” We need help. The sooner you recognize this the better of you are.

Most commentators will agree that this word “evil” represents the evil one, Satan. Lucifer is on the attack. Now he is not like God. He is not omnipresent. That is, he cannot be everywhere all at once. But his agents, fallen angels or demons, understand his directives and work to carry them out. If you think that he is not concerned with you, you are sadly mistaken. He wants to destroy you. He wants to separate you as far from God the Father as he possibly can. He wants to destroy your Christian life and your testimony. If you are lost, he wants to prevent you from ever acknowledging your need and becoming a Christian. Read more...

Kingdom, Power and Glory

The Lord’s Prayer draws to a close with these words, “For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”

The small word for says a lot. It simply means because. We have just made some very important requests of our Father, which is in heaven. Why should He grant these requests? Why would He want to? How do we know that He can? Because His is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.

Kingdom, power and glory teach us about our Father’s authority, ability and attitude. They help us to see that it is His prerogative, He has the power and it is His pleasure to grant these requests. Read more...

Amen!

When I was a child, I thought the word Amen, was like saying “Roger that. Over and out.” It was just the word that you tagged on to the end of your prayer as a means of “signing off.” I have a feeling that many people still perceive it that way. In reality, the word Amen means verily, so be it or let it be so. Now as we come to the final word in the Model Prayer we see that we are simply with one word asking our Father in heaven to grant the preceding requests. We are saying, “Let these things be so.” What was it that we prayed?  Read more...
