Light for Living Archives.

Light for Living began as a writing ministry of Pastor Gary Click while pastoring the Calvary Baptist Church in Clinton, IN. His articles were published in the local newspaper, The Daily Clintonian. They were also distributed to email subscribers and several were posted on this website.

Shortly after assuming the pastorate of the Fremont Baptist Temple, Fremont, OH, he was approached by Pastor James Lewis and chief operator, Brian Benedict about providing a two thirty-minute Radio Programs for the weekend. (WHVT 90.5 fm) At this point, Pastor Click's writing ministry transformed into a radio ministry.

Due to time constrains, the weekly devotional gave way to the radio ministry. However, these devotionals are still available online through the Light for Living Archives.

Pastor Click is still active in writing bible studies, dramas and devotional articles for other applications. We hope to make those resources available soon.

Thy Will Be Done

Matthew 6:9-13

9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.  Amen.

Isn’t it much more convenient to pray, “My will be done?” How often do we try to fit our own will into God’s plans. We chart our course and ask God to bless it. We determine what we want to do and expect God to make it possible and prosperous.

Jesus teaches us in the model prayer to seek the will of the Father. Many resist His will because either the do not trust Him or do not love Him. If we love God, we will desire to please Him. If we trust God, we will accept His will as the best direction for our life.

God’s will tests God’s children. At first God’s will seems difficult, impossible or impractical to His children. Eve certainly thought God’s will was unreasonable. So instead she said, “My will be done,” and set into place permanent consequences. Abraham was tested by God’s will and found God to be faithful. God’s will for Moses seemed an impossible task. But Moses learned that with God all things are possible. God’s will will test God’s people. The obedient Christian will always find God faithful. We must determine to pray “Thy will be done.”

Every child of God should realize that the will of God reflects the love of our Father in heaven. Jesus said in Matthew 7:11, “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?” You Father in heaven knows what is best for you. He knows how to make you prosper. His will may not always appear appealing at first. But hindsight always proves Him right.

A young child seldom understands why she has to get a shot at the doctor’s office or why he has to go to school everyday. Life would be so much easier without these burdens or so they think. But good parents direct their children to do difficult things because they are for the best. Even so we must remember that everything our Father in heaven wishes for us is in our best interest.

What a relief this is to me when I pray. No matter what I am praying for, I can resign the matter to His will and say, “Thy will be done.” I know that if my will conflicts with His will, His will is best for me. I am ready to accept His will above mine because I know that only His will will bring true happiness.

Jesus Himself was the ultimate example of surrender to the Father’s will. In the garden of Gethsemane the sins of the world were being laid upon Him. The weight of our sins was a great burden for Him to carry. In the flesh, I believe that it is safe to say that this was not the will of Jesus. Yet He was determined to carry out the will of the Father. Listen to His heart’s cry in Mark 14:36 “And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.” He was resigned to the will of the Father. He set the example for us all.

How will you pray? “My will be done” or “Thy will be done?”
